Best Approach
Believe it or not, despite the popularity of mineral makeup, it is amazing how many women are still entering into the mineral makeup and natural skincare world for the first time.
They have read all the information across the internet super highway, and are still trying to understand the differences between all the many mineral makeup brands available. It is definitely a daunting task to be sure. We have had women searching for as much information as they can find on mineral cosmetics and skincare products, only to locate our site which continually updates and educates about all things such as ingredients, regulations, and the basics to learn how to approach making their first purchase.
Trial and Error
Of course, there is always going to be a certain level of trial and error, and finding that perfect color match or ingredient profile may take some time. Or they will nail it the first time around and those are the lucky ones. But sampling for a trial period is the norm, and is always the best approach to determine best color and best use for a particular skin type. Samples are easy, affordable, and allow for a small investment of time and money to make sure the products are performing for a particular skin type or purpose. Ingredient decks are always available with every mineral makeup and skincare product offered, so if there is a concern over a certain ingredient, it can be avoided.
And of course, when in doubt, we ask that they write to us or call us so we can answer any questions or concerns they may have.
Best Advice for Beginners to Our Minerals and Skincare
When beginning any new regimen of makeup or skincare products, even though you may purchase them all at once, we advise introducing them one at a time in order to identify the source in the unlikelihood of a reaction, especially those with known sensitive skin issues. Changing up a complete regimen can cause skin to have a reaction or slight irritation simply because it is too much for the skin to handle. And by introducing a product one at time, you can eliminate easily which product may be the cause.
Plus, by allowing skin to adjust and get used to the new products, what may have initially caused a reaction because it was all too much at once, may end up working in the long run because it was introduced gradually, allowing pH and skin to normalize to the new ingredients.
Many women are excited with their new purchases, but it is best to take ones’ time through the use of samples where available, to avoid disappointment or confusion on what works best, and this will keep the investment of time and money to a minimum before investing in full size products.
The smoother the transition, the happier you and your skin will be.

As women age, we tend to get areas on our necks and chest that crease or fold providing a spot for perspiration to gather and remain, sometimes causing discomfort in those areas. The skin can get irritated or even develop a slight heat rash. Women in menopause are all too familiar with this phenomenon.
Our Satin Rose Mineral Veil is not just fo setting your mineral makeup, but for using on areas, you wouldn’t normally think of placing it. Whether you are wearing your daily mineral makeup or not, just pick up a small amount of mineral veil on your mineral makeup brush and sweep it onto these areas or any other spot you have that tends to hold perspiration, and Satin Rose Mineral Veil, will not only cool those areas, but will help to soothe and absorb the perspiration, keeping those areas drier. Plus, mineral veil will also help with slip, whereby reducing friction on the skin and the irritation caused by it.
Some areas of concern, are the back of the neck, the area where the neck meets the collarbone, and down into the decollete. Satin Rose Veil also stands up to moisture by having hydrophobic properties, helping it to stay put throughout the day.
So next time you feel hot and uncomfortable, try a spot of Satin Rose Mineral Veil on those areas, and see if it doesn’t assist with keeping you cool and dry.
Also, on the days you do wear your mineral makeup, try placing some of your Rose Petal Foundation in these areas as well, followed by a layer of Satin Rose Veil for added moisture protection.

The Never Ending Zit
As the summer heat piles on and hot, sticky perspiration becomes the norm, there always seems to be the pesky zit that keeps popping up or simply won’t go away. You know the one, that shiny red bump that hangs out on the forehead, around the nose or under the eye, at the top of the cheek, lasting for days or even for a week or more. Some of us get several at a time in the same location, but the results are always the same, they just seem to keep hanging in there.
Summer Time Requires Never Ending Vigilance
It is this time of year, more than any other time of year to be on our toes on keeping those pesky pimples in check. Exercise, working out in the yard, or just sitting under an umbrella in intense heat, all cause us to sweat on our faces, whether it is beads of sweat, or a downright dripping of perspiration, or maybe we just glisten ever so slightly. Either way, this all causes us to get that pimple that seems to stick around until our temperatures get colder and the air gets drier.
Getting A Clue
When we do the things we love in the great outdoors, it is the things we do in the great outdoors that causes us the unrelenting pimple. Wearing hats, sweat bands, sunglasses, or simply not cleansing our faces after we have done extensive sweating. Even waiting until bedtime to wash our faces after a long hot day, can cause us to bring about acne. When we do these things, it blocks air flow to our skin, and perspiration is allowed to sit against our faces, causing us the next lasting pimple to arrive. Sloughing skin cells become sticky in sweat and potentially block air flow to the pores of the face.
Take Control
- After exercise remove the sweatband immediately to allow the face to dry quickly. Then take a wet terry towel with cool water, and flush and wipe the sweat from your face. Make sure wet, sweaty hair is also pulled up off the face.
- Take off your sunhat periodically, allowing air to get to the skin and wipe your brow with a moistened cloth. Try to daub some cool water on the face whenever possible in the areas of where the hat rested.
- Shift sunglasses up and down the bridge of the nose and remove them altogether, wiping away excess perspiration. This allows air flow to the nose and eye area where zits love to pop up and reside there forever.
- Do wear your mineral makeup. The minerals will help to control perspiration through their excellent absorbent properties, and you can still splash water on your face, and daub, not wipe to keep cool, and your minerals will stay in place. Even if it is just one of our mineral veils because you may like to skip makeup days, they will help control perspiration, giving skin a better chance at avoiding the never ending zit.
- Do wash your face with ONATI Skin Care a minimum of twice per day, even if you skip makeup. Perspiration needs to be flushed and washed from the skin, taking all the oily, grimy, sticky sebum mixed with skin cells, away and down the drain.
- Avoid cornstarch mineral veils, since once they get wet, they too become sticky, will shift on the skin, and will congest pores, creating more acne.
And stay hydrated!
These few simple steps can and will help fight and control that pesky zit or spot of pimples that seem to be never ending in summer.

Well summer is almost here and many of us are getting our dose of Vitamin D on a daily basis. As we do this, the sun activates the melanin in our skin, giving us the bronzy appearance we enjoy, and gives us the look of health. Mineral makeup products will do the same, but use caution when deepening your mineral makeup shade or when applying Mineral Bronzer.
Although most of us love the sun, it’s warmth and it’s ability to stimulate Vitamin D for staving off illness and disease, it also does a number on our skin by causing it to age, so if you still love a bit of sun basking, always protect the face. Using sunscreen helps with this as can mineral makeup by protecting our skin from the UV rays which causes burning. If you are an avid naturalist for receiving Vitamin D synthesis through sun exposure just remember to keep it under 15 - 20 minutes each time to avoid burning.
Now as to the mineral makeup we love for shading purposes to keep our faces matched to the rest of our bodies as the skin tone deepens. Remember this one important point, don’t ever try to make the face look darker or equal to the rest of the body. Try to deepen the shade gradually, while leaving the face just a slight shade lighter. Believe it or not, this will give the face a more youthful appearance. Getting the face too dark will actually make us appear older than we really are and no one wants that.
A light touch with changing a shade will go far for creating a gorgeous, luminous, healthy sunkissed glow.
Beauty Tip: When concealing the areas around the eyes as the face gets darker, make sure you blend the darker shade in around the outer area of the eye to avoid the fine lines from becoming highlighted which will also enhance age. Conceal with a lighter shade for refractive purposes, but then blend inward from hairline over with the darker shade to soften the contrast. This will make the face appear more natural. In other words, don’t go for the “Hey, I was wearing my sunglasses” look.

Feeling Overwhelmed?
Have you every looked in your drawer and you see so many eye shadows you never know which one to use next? Or maybe you have acquired many, yet there are the ones which have become favorites.
Are you struggling with throwing them out? Well let’s gauge what is the best course of action.
Pressed versus loose mineral eye shadows
If your drawer has become a multitude of pressed eye color palettes, then there really is a time to throw these out. For one, the application is no longer clean after repeated use and depending on the agents for pressing, they can become brittle and dry and no longer retain the luxurious texture they had when new. Ideally, after a year, it is a good idea to discard them.
Loose mineral eye shadows on the other hand maintain a completely contamination free zone. They are fresh and new with each application and can go on forever. The downside, is you have so many you don’t know what to do with them and you certainly don’t want to waste them or the money spent by throwing them out.
Get Creative!
Mineral eye shadows can make great face colors and blush enhancers. Of course they have to be in the color category for accenting facial features and cheeks. After all you don’t want to apply blue or green eye shadow to those rosy cheeks, not unless you enjoy martian status.
But for the colors which are bold and vibrant and possess pastels and rich tones outside of beauty for the face, then you can mix them on the lid to create a completely new color. Get fun and flirty and experiment with new shades you create by mixing and layering your old eye shadows.
When you have the benefit of eye shadow shades that are flush and blush for the face and cheeks, then this works great for enhancing complexions and contouring cheeks. They can be used to deepen a blush or highlight just the apples of the cheek, brighten the skin and give a rosy new glow to the face. They also work great for deflecting light, giving cheeks and skin a natural luminescence without looking shiny.
Give it a try. It is a wonderful way of using up the shades and you can truly get your money’s worth by getting creative.

The Moist Method is always the preferred method for applying our mineral makeup foundations. However, when applying our Rosebud Blush, this is not the desirable way to achieve perfection. Picking the mineral blush up with a damp brush can cause streaking or blotchy color on the cheeks. That is why we have created this beauty tip for using our mineral makeup blush to yield the best results.
Blush Application Tips:
- Apply with dry brush over your foundation to achieve a gradual shading of the cheek. Remember different shades offer different intensity.
- For helping color to pop, spritz with a moisture mist of distilled water or our Perfect Balance Facial Toner. This will also help set your makeup.
- For a creamy application, similar to a cream or stick blush, lightly spritz moisture on your face first. Now press with foundation brush to set the makeup and to draw away excess moisture.
- Now follow with a light sweeping or swirling motion of your favorite blush shade on the apple of the cheeks. Make sure the cheeks are only slightly moist.
This will give a beautiful intense color and will meld with your skin for an awesome natural flush of your cheeks. So whether you desire to apply it dry and then set afterward, or apply to a slightly moistened cheek, the finish will be one of a natural, healthy glow.
Final Tip: You can apply dry, and after you spritz to set the color, you can then take the blush residual left on the brush and lightly go over the cheeks again to further intensify the shade and give a seamless look to the overall mineral makeup application. Always remember to blend, blend, blend. This will create the Flawless Finish women are looking for.

When dealing with mineral makeup, some of us can still struggle to find the perfect blend for our sensitive skin. Whether you have perfect skin or skin plagued with problems, not all mineral makeup is the answer to that problem as all mineral makeup products are not alike. Some will still have skin issues when trying to switch from liquid makeup to mineral powders and is why it is important to do your research.
We have heard from many women who thought they were doing the best thing for their skin, only to learn the drug store brand of minerals or the largest infomercial of product offerings, were still contributing to skin issues women could not resolve simply by switching.
Bismuth Oxychloride, Micas (coated or uncoated) or a bevy of synthetic chemicals, which in some includes a vast array of preservatives, can be leading contributors to ongoing skin health problems. This is especially the case when BO or Mica are found in large ratios in formulation. Irritation and acne can continue with women using products containing these potential skin irritants and are used in excess as bulking agents for the product.
Tips for getting the best results for those with skin health issues:
- READ the label carefully, if you see Bismuth Oxychloride or Mica as the 1st or 2nd ingredient, this places them at the higher ratio in proportion to skin soothing ingredients, whereby possibly negating the benefits found in the other essential minerals or botanical ingredients added.
- CHECK for preservatives! These are found not only in commercial brands but in some professional lines. Preservatives are completely unnecessary in loose powders, since they are dry, inert ingredients. Without a moist environment, bacteria simply cannot grow and the addition of a preservative just adds another element of a possible skin sensitizer.
- ALWAYS make sure you begin with a clean brush, removing any residual cosmetic of another problematic brand is best done by washing them in a baby shampoo and then rinsing thoroughly to avoid any carryover from contamination of soap residue. Also make sure the brush is not animal hair which over the course of time can deteriorate as tips become damaged similar to our own hair, causing a poking sensation to skin.
- DO NOT over buff our minerals, which is necessary with many other brands. The composition of our mineral makeup DOES NOT require this tiresome task, which over buffing of a mineral makeup also leads to pushing product into pores, causing further irritation and acne. This can be a tough habit to break, we know!
- DO NOT over exfoliate skin! Excessive cleansing and the use of exfoliating scrubs or masks, or even the use of terry washcloths will contribute to an endless cycle of irritation. One may experience some slight itching when switching mineral makeup products, and can be a sign the skin is beginning a healing process. This slight itching should not be confused with incessant itching or burning sensation which is typical of products containing Bismuth Oxychloride. Also, if you are experiencing some slight stinging, this is also an indication the astringent properties of Zinc and Titanium are having an affect on what could be overstimulated skin or an open lesion. Always be gentle to your face!
- ALWAYS try to use an excellent moisturizer followed by the use of our Moist Method Application. We offer our ONATI Skin Care as a compliment to our mineral products. If you are concerned about the use of any moisturizer as a contributing factor to acne or creating problems for other skin sensitivities like Rosacea, use of Organic Jojoba Oil applied to a damp face can be ideal for assisting with protecting and soothing skin, while assisting with remarkable adherence of our mineral makeup. Plus it is a soothing inert ingredient and is not chemically reactive, and helps to maintain pH levels of the skin. Will absolutely not cause acne and will leave skin like velvet, not oily!
- DO USE Synthetic Brushes and ours are actually most preferred when applying our minerals, and pose no irritation factor for delicate, sensitive skin types.
- ALWAYS follow gentle cleansing practices! If you enjoy using a washcloth, then try switching to one of our Microfiber washcloths for better cleaning and reduced irritation of the body and face.
The easy press and sweep of our mineral cosmetics, will be the simplest and most gentle method of application, alleviating most skin problems the very first time you use them. Follow these few simple tips and you too can have a pleasant and successful experience using our mineral makeup products.
