Differences Between Mineral Powder and Liquid Foundations
You may or may not experience these sensations. It is strictly subjective to the level of sensitivity you have with your skin. We do not use Bismuth Oxychloride or Cornstarch, (Ingredients Explained) in our foundation formulas, so you should not experience sensitivities from our powders due to this fact. However, in some instances you may experience an occasional slight itch here and there on the face when new to our minerals. This should not be confused with a reaction to use, such as incessant intense itching for those who are bismuth, cornstarch or mica sensitive when using other brands of mineral makeup utilizing these as a primary ingredient.

Using a brush to apply the minerals may cause some of this sensation also if your skin is not used to brush application. This is why using one of our luxuriously soft natural hair brushes will help reduce this. Synthetic brushes have been known to cause some skin sensitivity and their application of minerals is also substandard compared to natural hair makeup brushes.

The minerals such as Zinc Oxide, (anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, mild astringent) and the botanicals such as Allantoin, Jojoba Extract and Rice Powder are aiding in proliferation of old skin cells and healing inflamed or irritated skin. Just like any micro tear on the skin, the occasional itch one may experience is the sensation of your skin beginning to heal from using our mineral powders. This slight sensation should decrease within 5-14 days as your skin recovers from the years of abuse from using chemically harsh products on your face, or from grinding Bismuth or Mica based products into your skin.

You may also notice your skin feels a bit more toned from the mineral powders. This is not the same as feeling as though your skin is dried out. This is due to removing the coated minerals, silicone oils and any other synthetic lubricants from your makeup regimen that helps glide on other mineral or liquid makeup brands which can give the makeup and skin an oilier feel. Our emollient rich mineral powders with Rice Powder, Methicone and Jojoba Oil Extract will never dry your skin out but will help retain moisture against it. Using a very good moisturizer, including mixing a drop or two of additional Jojoba Oil with it if you possess dry skin, and keeping your skin exfoliated beforehand, will also improve the benefits and results of our minerals once applied to your face. Also using one of our soothing and calming Mineral Veils or D2O Moisture Spritz will further assist with moisture retention against the skin and will speed healing. This will further aid in reduction of any skin irritation you may still be experiencing from use of either liquid or other mica based mineral makeup products prior to using Sterling Minerals.

Our foundation formulas can be applied dry or with a spray moistened brush. You can either mist brush with distilled water or wonderful D2O Moisture Spritz. Do not over wet your brush. Or you can spray D2O directly onto your face and massage in with your regular moisturizer for the ultimate in a makeup primer. The minerals will adhere more readily with this method. Tap water is not recommended due to it containing heavy metals. It can leave a chalky residue on your skin which can leave your face feeling tight, itchy and dried out. Our Mineral Powders are not formulated to be mixed with a moisturizer. All minerals can be washed off easily with soap and water.
